Linking Audio to Visuals and Applying effects P4 (d)
In this section, I am going to show about what have I changed in the audio to make the video more visualised and more effective to audiences.
1. Here below, it is the audio mixer of my music video-Runaway. It controls the dynamic of the music. There are many audio, they control different part of the music, and they automatically adjust to 0.
2. At the beginning, it is just the introduction, and kind of narrating the story of the music video. I do not want the audience to feel very dull and boring because there are no dynamic in the music video, so they do not know where is the climax of this music video. I then started the music from between -12 - -18, it is not very quiet that the audiences can't hear, but with knowing this is just the beginning.
3. This part is the ascending part of the music video, where the actor A starts to fight back and stand up to the teacher, so I increased the dynamic of the music to +3, so it is louder, and gives a stronger sensation to the audience, with knowing the story is going up to the climax. This also makes the audience more hyper as the audio is getting louder and the music is very rhythmic, making the music video more encouraging.
4. To be able to edit more conveniently, I go on the bar of my music, "Edit" > "Unlink". It is because the music bar is very long and it connects the whole song. It will be very hard and difficult to edit the song in this case.
5. This is the soundtrack of my music, and it shows the range of dynamic and how the sounds go up and down. It helps me to know more specifically which part is the climax, so it is more convenience to edit.
In this section, I am going to explain what effects have I put into my music video, and how does it effect the audiences.
1. First we go to this "Effects" log. These are the effects for the music video.
2. Then we come to this "Video effect" section. Here we can see effects like "Adjust", "Blur & Sharpen", "Channel", "Color Correction" etc.
3. First, I would like my music video to be connected, so I go to "Video Transitions". It has a few video transitions. "Block dissolve", "Gradient Wipe", "Linear Wipe", "Radial Wipe" and "Venetian Blinds".
4. In the "Video Transitions", I have used "Addictive Dissolve" between some of the clips, so they are more connected like a story. This is how it looks when I put this effect into the clips.
5. I used "Dip to Black" on the clip when Actor A felt depressed and exhausted. I used this effect so it can emphasis the sadness of the actor, and also tell the audience his mood.
6. Sometimes, my video are too slow or too quick, so I would like to change its speed. So I chose a clip that I would like to edit the speed. I right click the clip, and this will be shown on the screen. "Right click" > "Speed/Duration".
This will then appear on the screen, for this scene below, I would like to slow it down, so I changed the speed from 100% - 70%. So, it will be much slower then. The reason I am doing this is because I want the audiences to feel this is a happy memory and to have a moody sensation. Also allowing the audiences to see clearer what the actors are doing.
7. To be able to add effects on the clips, and also to see the effect screen. I go to "Window" > "Effects".
This will then appear on the screen. The left screen shows all the effect controls. This can enable us to add effects and edit the video more conveniently.
At the left, there is a block that's showing all the visual effects. If we want to apply any of these, just simply pick one you want to apply, and drag it to the video. Then the effect control screen will help us with editing. We can control how long the effect last and we can also put more than 1 effect in each clip.
In here, I changed the colour balance. The colour balanced are originally 100 in each Red, Green and Blue column. But I would like to create a more sad and sympathetic effect, so I decided to change the Red colouring from 100 to 90, the Green and the Blue column to 80, so the red saturation is comparatively high than the green and the blue saturation.
That is why, we can see that the overall look of this scene is an evening feeling, the colour is red and also dark, which gives a negative energy to the audiences, and also making them feel sad and depression here.
8. After applying so effects to the video, we have to go the "Sequence" > " Render Effects in Work Area". This helps the program to run faster and avoid it to have trouble matching the video and the audio together. So we have to do it frequently.
Here is the audio timeline, before I had layed down any footage, as you can see Premiere Pro gives a clear visual representation of the audio track and where different parts of the song come in and out.
Here is an example of an amount of clips I am editing, we can see that the clips are connecting tightly, it has many layers to allow me to edit more conveniently. Which is quite comfortable to edit till the end of the music video. It is very easy to use Adobe Premium pro. The left upper corner block is where the imported video are. I have already renamed them, so they are all in order and are ready to be edit. The block underneath is where Audio and Video effects can be browsed and dragged to the editing video workspace. There are big screen at the middle, the screen at the left is for watching imported videos, we can also add video effects here. The screen at the right is for viewing edited videos or watching the film.
1. The first procedure I have to do is to download the soundtrack of "Runaway". As this is a music video, the music is very important. Then I drag it to the soundtrack bar.
2. Then, I right click on the soundtrack bar. Go to "Edit in Adobe Soundbooth" > " Edit source file". In here, I can edit the change of pitch and timing, clean up audio, create loop, remove a sound or volume correction.
3. This is the tool bar, it has "The selection tool", "The track select tool", "Ripple edit tool", " Rolling edit tool", "Rate stretch tool", "Razor tool", "Slip tool", "Slide tool", "Pen tool", "Hand tool" and also "Zoom tool". These tools help me to edit the video.
4. In order to enhance the video, I need to put some effect into it. Here is a list of video effects that I can put into my music video, these effects will make my video look more professional and also more connected.
5. After finish editing the whole music video, I will have to export it Youtube, because this is one of the process in this project, but also like any other music video, they are exported to Youtube.
But first, I have to go to "File" > "Export" > "Media".
6. This is what shows after then. Here is a export setting. We have to drag the red line on the yellow bar to the left, so it will export from the beginning. There's a few setting we have to make sure. On the preset, we must set it to "NTSC DV Widescreen 24p", because with this, the video will be clear and without black bars at the edge or on the bottom/ above the video.
After pressing the " Export" button, the video will then start to export, and it will appear on my desktop.
6. After exporting, we can go to Youtube. I have create an account in Youtube so I am allowed to upload any video now. I press the "Upload" button on the right corner of the page to upload my music video.
Then, I just simply drag my exported music video from the desktop, then the video will be uploaded.
Youtube is a video-sharing website headquarter in San Bruno, California, United states. The site allows users to upload, view, rate, share and comment on videos. We have decided to share the music video on Youtube because it is very easy to upload the video, and it is very easy to use. The most important is, this website is worldwide, so everyone will be able to see this video.
7. I am going to upload all my work and procedure using Blogger.
These are all the equipment we used in Blogger.
Blogger is very easy to work with. We just simply go to "Insert Image" > "Choose File" then the images will be up on the blog. And on the image below, we can see how does it look like to write on the blog. Apart from easy to use, it has different font and font size, it also includes "Bold", "Italic" and "Underline" for the words, allowing us to have different personal style of blog. I can also create as much posts as I want, you could choose the style of your blog too, that makes it more interesting.
Logging rushes & creating an edit decision list P4 (a)
This is the app we are using to edit my music video- " Adobe Premium Pro".
Why is it important to store all the film clips in one place?
I have placed all the film clips in one place ( The document above). It is very important to be organised, because they are all the resources of the music video, and it is more convenience to store them all in one place, so I could rename in the folder, and also search for them at the same folder if necessary. Renaming is a very important process in here, because it is easier to identify which video is belong to which scene, and I have a concept of what the video is about, so easier and more convenient editing in Adobe Premium Pro. Therefore, it is necessary to be organised.
Ratio size:
Here is a picture that shows different ratio size. We use different ratio size, this is because the 16:9 aspect ratio is optimised towards
today's HD content and is also the standard for HDTV. In fact, movies have always been in widescreen as
they can show more imagery in a wide ratio vs. a square ratio. As well, although this may have little to
do with most users‟ occupations, video games are now in HD, so in order to correctly experience the
graphics on a computer game, a user must have an HD 16:9 widescreen monitor.
The benefits of having a wider screen are users can view more due to higher resolutions and larger viewable areas, helping to maximise productivity. Also, because widescreen ratios match current high definition standard, views of imagery appear correctly and eliminate large black bars at the top and bottom of the screen.
In this section I am going to introduce all my ideas of making the music video.
Filming diary:
16/1/2016We started filming after lunch at 1:30pm, luckily all of our crews and actors are living in the school campus, so it is not very hard to get everyone together to film. We started from the history classroom for the first scene. Actor A- Kent Tam and actor B- Bosco Ng, I requested them to wear casually like their normal self, they wore jeans and hoodies. For me the most difficult part is to get the right time for everyone, some people are not free on Sunday, some people are not free at Saturday's afternoon, so we have to make an agreement on the time. Also, the location is quite difficult to book. I have to go ask the school manager for leaving a few classrooms unlock for us, and also ask for permission of the teacher who uses the classrooms. Filming is more complicated and difficult than I thought, we have to meet the suitable weather, and luckily that day was a sunny day, so the lighting was perfect. We also have to bring the equipments around, to prevent damaging them, we need to handle them in care all the time, they are quite inconvenience to bring into the woods. A few days before, it was raining, so the mud and the grass were still wet and slippery, we have to be more careful from falling off and also damaging the equipments. As the mud were too soft, the tripod could not stable properly on the ground, so we ended up holding it with shaky hands, therefore some of the scenes are a bit blurry, but they are still presentable. 31/1/2016 I thought we have finished filming, however the clips aren't enough to make the music video. So, we had to decide another day for filming. This time, we decided to film in the library, the benches next to the Food and Nutrition department and also in the football pitch. We would like some clips of the memories between the 2 actors. Again, they are requested to wear their own clothes and casually. We asked them to play around like how guys usually do, and to act like good brothers to present their friendship. After about 2 hours of extra filming, we finally have enough material for the music video, we are pleased and went back to work on the music video. This shooting surprises me because we finished filming in this short amount of time, and the clips are in good quality, I am sure they will help my music video to be more interesting!
